ANEMIA

ANEMIA

Abnormal reduction in the number of circulation red blood cells quantity of hemoglobin and the volume of packed red cell in a given unit of blood.


CLASSIFICATION:-

ETIOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION 
1. Loss of blood 
2. Excess destruction of RBC
3. Impaired blood production due to deficiency of substances essential for erythropoises.
4. Inadequate production of mature erythrocytes.

MORPHOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION 
1. Macrocytic
2. Normocytic
3. Simple microcytic 
4. Hypochromatic microcytic 

ORAL MANIFESTATION OF ANEMIA

PERNICIOUS ANEMIA

1. Glossitis
2. Gradual atrophy of the papillae results in smooth or bald tongue


APLASTIC ANEMIA

Petechiae purpuric spots or frank hematomas of oral mucosa and gingival hemorrhage. 


ERYTHROBLASTIC FOETALIS:-

1. pigmentation of teeth (green, brown or blue hue)
2. Enamel hypoplasia 

Characteristic ring like defect (Rh hump)


THALASSEMIA:-

1. Unusual prominence of premaxilla 
2. Oral mucosa exhibit anemic pallor characteristics. 


SICKLE CELL ANEMIA:-

1. Mild to severe generalized osteoporosis and loss of trabeculation of bones.
2. Histologically, nuclear enlargement and atypical chromatin distribution is seen.


IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA:-

1.Angular chelitis
2. Glossitis 
3. Dysphagia
